8:45pm TIM WHITEHEAD QUARTET. Multi-Award-winning saxophonist Tim Whitehead is renowned throughout the UK, Europe and the USA as a remarkable performer and composer with a dazzling CV. In the 70s he toured with Ian Carr’s “Nucleus” and “Graham Collier Music” winning the Young Jazz Musician of the Year Award on the way. In the 80’s he was a member of the groundbreaking big band Loose Tubes and continued to develop his own music recording and through the 90’s and 2000’s he made a number of critically acclaimed albums, winning The Andrew Milne Award for Jazz, as well as the BBC Music Magazine Jazz Album of the Year. In 2009 he was made the first ever musician Artist in Residence at Tate Britain, resulting in a number of brilliant gigs, a highly acclaimed album “Colour Beginnings” and a short-listing for the British Composer Of The Year Award 2010. Tim’s muscular, innovative, yet fluent and highly melodic playing is widely regarded as amongst the finest around and he commands considerable respect throughout the Jazz scene.
9:45pm JIM MULLEN made his name working with a number of seminal bands through the 70’s and 80’s including Brian Auger’s “Trinity” and his own highly acclaimed jazz/funk band “Morrisey Mullen”. A multi award winner, Jim is widely regarded as one of the finest Jazz guitarists in Europe. An iconic figure on the UK Jazz scene it is with enormous pleasure that we welcome Jim and his band to the festivities.
10:45pm MORNINGTON LOCKETT QUARTET One of the UK’s leading tenor sax players Mornington worked with the Ronnie Scott quintet in the 1980’s before moving on to work with singer Sarah Jane Morris and the Tracey’s, Stan and Clark, as well as being the driving force behind the brilliant “Celebrating the Jazz Couriers” quintet. He has appeared on over 50 recordings and as well as a greatly admired player he is also a highly respected educator with a c.v. that includes the Royal College of Music, Trinity College of Music, Leeds College of Music and the Royal Northern College of Music. He has a powerful and hugely impressive sound and approach and his gigs are invariably both musical and exciting.

11:45pm NATHANIEL FACEY QUARTET Nathaniel has, over the last few years, established an impressive and well deserved reputation on the UK Jazz scene as the highly talented and creative saxophonist with the MOBO award-winning group “Empirical”. A star of the international jazz scene he has won Parliamentary, Jazzwise, MOJO and Peter Whittingham Awards (amongst many others), recorded or performed with a who’s who of international jazz stars including Courtney Pine, Tim Garland, Jack Dejohnette and Hugh Masekela and performed in prestigious venues and festivals around the world.
