8:45pm JACK WILKINS QUARTET with PETER RUBIE We are very excited to welcome to the Festival New York based guitarist Jack Wilkins, who has been demonstrating his flawless technique and imaginative approach since he burst on to the international jazz scene in the early 1970's with the album “Windows”, which was critically acclaimed as a dazzling, seminal guitar trio work. Since then his great ear and an impeccable sense of time have lead to musical collaborations with a veritable who’s who of jazz greats, including Chet Baker, Sarah Vaughan, Bob Brookmeyer, and Buddy Rich. Hs recorded output on 10 CD’s under his own name is equally impressive, featuring the likes of the Brecker Brothers, Eddie Gomez, Jack De Johnette, Al Foster, Phil Woods and Kenny Burrell. A consummate accompanist, the list of musicians that he has worked with ably demonstrates the admiration and respect with which his work is held within the International musical community, including work with iconic performers Ray Charles, Mel Torme, Sarah Vaughan, Sammy Davis Jr, Tony Bennett, Manhattan Transfer and Cassandra Wilson. Jack was featured on the first live Internet jazz concert and was awarded an NEA grant in recognition of his work and contribution to the guitar. He now divides his time between teaching at The New School, Manhattan School of Music and performing around NYC while still releasing new material. The gig tonight will also feature fellow guitarist Peter Rubie. This is a unique opportunity to catch this remarkable player in a London venue.
