FRIDAY MAY 31 | 8:45pm |£16
8:45pmPAUL CARMICHAEL BAND. Paul has been in demand as a bass player since the late 70s, working with Allan Holdsworth on the seminal album “IUO”, Ian Carr's “Nucleus”, Barbara Thomson's “Paraphernalia” and Steve Topping’s “Time and distance" and is now a well-respected producer too. He has often been heard at the Club playing with other people, but tonight we welcome him with his own blistering band. The line-up, who’ll be playing some of the finest soul-grooves you’ll hear this year, features ace guitarist/singer Julian Burdock (24 Pesos) plus, some very special Surprise Guests, so expect plenty of fun and some quite amazing music.
“Paul Carmichael…Great fusion bass player” Time Out "an irresistibly uplifting piece of jazz-funk... Carmichael's trademark rock-solid electric bass drives a tight but rumbustious band" LondonJazz
10:00pmIMAANIA terrific singer in the Soul/R&B tradition Imaani’s cv is long and impressive. She first came to prominence as the UK’s 1998 entrant to the Eurovision Song contest (one of the better choices!) where she was runner up and went on to produce a highly successful single that charted around the World. She then moved on to work with Dub Conspiracy (with whom she again charted). Her worldwide tours, television, live and recorded output includes work with the likes of Gloria Gaynor, Carleen Anderson, Michael Bolton, Lulu and Beverley Knight. She was until recently the lead singer with the iconic band “Incognito”, with whom she has had a long association and she continues to perform with them whenever “motherhood” duties allow. A powerful and charismatic performer it’s an enormous pleasure to welcome this enormously experienced and highly regarded singer to the Festival.
“the magnificent vocals of Imaani, who weaves her magic over a backdrop of funk guitar and old-school synths” DJ Times
11:15pmThe STACEY BROTHERS & FRIENDS featuring Jason Rebello.Regulars at the 606 since our time at the old place in the Kings Road, twins Jeremy and Paul Stacey have been one of the great mainstays of the music here over the last 25 years and no 606 Festival would be complete without them. Both intense and immensely impressive players in their own right they have put together a band tonight to help celebrate in their own, inimitable way! Jeremy is a powerful and highly impressive drummer, who is equally at home playing pop, rock, funk or straight ahead jazz. Jeremy’s cv is vast, including work with the likes of Robbie Williams, Joe Cocker, Jason Rebello, Amy Winehouse, Beverly Knight, Eurythmics (w/Stevie Wonder), Tina Turner….you get the idea! The regular drummer with American icon Sheryl Crow for over 7 years, Jeremy has just finished touring the World with Noel Gallagher’s “High Flying Birds”. Paul’s fluent and impressive guitar playing has been featured with such Jazz artists as Claire Martin and Jason Rebello, however, demonstrating his impressive versatility he has also toured with Oasis, The Black Crowes and the Finn Brothers. A powerful performer in the Rock/Blues idiom, there is no doubt that his playing is held in very high regard by all who have worked with him. Both very old friends of the Club Jeremy and Paul have found time in their busy schedules to put together a great Jazz/Groove band, something they have been doing here at the Club on a regular basis for more than 25 years.
“…a fine…drummer with an infectious feel.” Time Out “Stacey’s…brilliant guitar work” Concertlivewire
