Manteca featuring Martha Acosta

Martha Acosta 606 Club Chelsea Live Music Jazz Salsa London

MANTECA feat MARTHA ACOSTA. This vibrant 8-piece salsa band, formed by famed Colombian singer Martha Acosta, has been “salsa-ing” across the UK and Europe for over 7 years now. Martha, best known for her work with her all woman Latin band “Candela” and Roberto Pla’s “Latin Ensemble”, drives the band along with her searing Latin vocals and powerhouse personality. And she is ably supported by some of the finest Latin musicians on the scene, including David Oliver (piano), Shanti Paul Jayasinha (trumpet), Vancho Manoilovich (drums), Satin Singh (percussion), Ben Sommers (sax) and Robin Harris (trombone). Undoubtedly one of the best salsa bands working the scene today.

"Ripping funky Salsa from the finest Latin musicians of London, guaranteed to induce all manner of heel-stamping and handclapping” Fact Magazine

Ronnie Scott's Allstars

Pianist Music Director James Pearson Ronnie Scott's All Stars

Polly Gibbons Ronnie Scotts All Stars Fulham Palace

Saxophonist Alex Garnett 606 Club Chelsea Ronnie Scott's All Stars

“RONNIE SCOTTS ALLSTARS” directed by JAMES PEARSON-piano with ALEX GARNETT-sax and featuring POLLY GIBBONS-vocals. The 606 Club and Ronnie Scott’s Club have a long history of co-operation, dating back to the time when Ronnie Scott, who was a Chelsea resident, used to frequent the Club on a regular basis. A great supporter and friend of the 606 Club, Ronnie and his band played for the opening night in 1988 and performed at the Club throughout the 90’s. Despite the change in circumstance at Ronnie’s in recent years we still keep in close contact and so it is with great pleasure that we welcome to the Fulham Palace the Ronnie Scotts Allstars, directed by Ronnie’s resident pianist, the wonderful James Pearson with the excellent saxophonist Alex Garnett and featuring one of the UK’s finest vocalists and Ronnie Scott regular Polly Gibbons.

James Pearson - Probably best known these days as the Artistic Director and resident pianist at Ronnie Scotts, James’s playing has been heard with a who’s who of contemporary artists including Dame Cleo Laine, Maria Ewing, Elvin Jones, Wynton Marsalis, Joss Stone, Jeff Beck and Paul McCartney. As well as a highly respected jazz performer James’s classical piano playing has also been heard in a variety of contexts, including a Classic F.M broadcast of his concert of Rachmaninoff’s 2nd piano concerto. Just to underline his impressive talent, James is also a composer of note with commissions that include a Clarinet Sonata, Piano Variations, a suite based on Colette’s Madame Alvarez and a jazz symphonic work “Millenium Celebration”. His film and theatre work is extensive and he has just completed an 80 minute sound track for the BFI commissioned film “Big Smoke”.

Polly Gibbons - Polly is one of the most respected and talked about singers of her generation, a powerful and versatile singer she performs gentle Jazz ballads and rockin’ R&B classics with a uniformly impressive energy and technique. And she has a great personality to match.

“Polly Gibbons…a truly exceptional, once in a generation talent, possessing a voice of such sizzling intensity and raw emotion you could fry an egg on it” Jazzwise
“James Pearson is a forebodingly brilliant and melodically inventive jazz pianist and few can match him” Blues and Soul
“…outstanding players. For poise, balance and swing they’re a joy to listen to” Observer
