 The ABC&D…
A IS FOR AXEL ZWINGENBERGER, Born in Hamburg, Germany, he has been wowing audiences with his amazing boogie woogie techniques for over 30 years. He has won critical acclaim for being one of the world’s finest exponents of this genre and has inspired many modern musicians
B IS FOR BEN WATERS, another of the world’s leading Boogie Woogie/Rock N Roll piano players. Although he’s just 35 he has already toured the world numerous times over, playing in prestigious venues and festivals.
C IS FOR CHARLIE WATTS. What can you say about one of the most influential legendary musicians of all time? Having spent most of his adult life playing in “The World’s greatest Rock n Roll band” and touring the globe 100s of times you’d think he’d have had enough! However Charlie has such a passion for boogie woogie and swing, that he is simply unstoppable. DAN REINSTEIN. American born but British educated, I first met Dan at the old Club when he was a medical undergraduate. Even then he was an impressive player, and after taking time off his medical studies to go to the Berklee School of Music he became even better. He returned to the USA in the early 90’s where he became one of the world’s leading experts in laser eye surgery (he’s now officially Professor Reinstein). But he never stopped playing, and when he returned to London to live and work (www.londonvisionclinic.com) it was great to hear his fluent, classic hard-bop, muscular sax playing again. However, in more recent years, as well as continuing and growing his piano playing, he has re-invented himself as one of this country’s leading Jazz chromatic harmonica players. Mon 26th DANNY ADLER’S “ROOGALATOR”

US blues/rock guitarist Danny Adler played with Bootsy Collins, John Lee Hooker, T-Bone Walker and a host of other top musicians before moving to the UK to form “Roogalator” in 1971. The band’s sound was a distinct blend of funky r&b that grabbed the attention of John Peel for whom they played three sessions on his radio show within a year. Roogalator’s packed live schedule gained them a reputation for touring relentlessly and they acquired a cult following thanks largely to Danny’s status on the live scene as one of the best players around. The band broke up in ‘78, but had already amassed a catalogue of great tunes. Dan continued to live and work in the UK as a highly successful guitarist, working with the likes of Charlie Watts and Jack Bruce in the band “Rocket 88”, Mickey Waller and classic saxophonist Dick Heckstall-Smith in the “Deluxe Blues Band” and drummer Ginger Baker, before moving back to the States in the mid nineties. A regular at the Club throughout his time in the UK, it is with enormous pleasure that we welcome this fabulous musician back to the Club after a break of almost 12 years!  As well as Danny the gig tonight also features Julian Scott on Bass and Dave Solomon on Drums performing original songs from the “Roogalator” days which capture the vibe of 70s funky r&b. Should be quite a night!
