Singer Wayne Hernandez 606 Club Chelsea Live Music Soul R&B London UKFriday 13th 9:30pm £14

Wayne Hernandez is one of those fantastic singers who has been using his considerable talents for many years to make others sound good. Hugely successful within the music business he has worked with Tina Turner, Tori Amos, Blur, Grover Washington, Roberta Flack and Madonna. He has also toured extensively with Kool and the Gang, Regina Bell and most recently Billy Ocean, and is one of the singers with the band Gorillaz, (oh, that guy!). With an Afro-Cuban heritage that includes work to this day with the London Community Gospel Choir, along with living in New York for a number of years, Wayne describes his music as “…a living fusion of music styles from the Black music scene”. Also a well-established songwriter and producer, this multi-talented artist delivers a simply brilliant set of powerful groove music with an impressive eight-piece band of hand-picked musicians, including guitar, sax and backing vocals, that define the word “soul”. We’ve asked Wayne to put together a special “Valentine Soul Night” especially for us, so if you want to spend a romantic evening with some rare “Groove” sounds, this is definitely for you.

“ was clear that Wayne had a very special talent, his voice, it was simply breathtaking

:: booking only ::

featuring Tom Cawley, piano

(set menu only, £50 per person including glass of champagne or 1/2 bottle of wine; + £20 music charge)

A fine Canadian-born singer, Tammy Weis has been living in London for more than a decade whose love for the Great American Songbook has led her firmly in to the area of the classic jazz standards, which she performs with a wonderful sense of melody and swing. Her 2007 debut CD, “Legacy”, was warmly received and led to appearances on national TV and radio as well as jazz festivals including Montreal and Vancouver. Since then both her performances, and in particular her writing, have moved her to the forefront of the UK jazz scene. Her latest CD “Where I Need To Be”, features her excellent original material written with Grammy Award-winning producer Terry Britten and pianist Tom Cawley, with one of her co-writes from that album “Everyone But Me”, being included on an album produced by Michael Bublé in early 2013. Jamie Cullum, Bobby McFerrin and Randy Bachman are just a few of the high-profile artists with whom she has performed. This romantic Valentine’s evening will feature Tammy’s lush interpretations of the most unforgettable jazz love songs, joined by her fine band including Tom Cawley (piano) and Julie Walkington (bass). Most definitely a night to remember.

Singer Zoe Francis 606 Club Chelsea Live Music Jazz Vocal Standards London UKSunday 15th 8:30pm

Zoe Francis started singing jazz while living and working in New York,
and soon became a regular fixture on the scene, often sitting in with the late Harry Whitaker and his trio at Arturo’s down in the Village as well as working with many other musicians including Harry Allen, Warren Vache, Joe Cohn and Chris Flory. Her first album “Looking for a Boy” was released to significant acclaim, while her second, “The Very Thought of You”, recorded live at the 606, came out in September to similar plaudits. Both discs provide a great showcase for her beautiful voice as well as Zoe’s exquisite taste. Singing a really lovely selection of melodic standards (some well known, others less so), with a great sense of swing and natural ability, Zoe’s gigs are just terrific. Appearing with Zoe this evening will be iconic UK guitarist Jim Mullen, the great Stan Sulzmann on sax, Mick Hutton (Humphrey Lyttleton) on bass and Enzo Zirilli on drums. A classic jazz star in the making, and a brilliant gig.

“something a bit special is going on when this artist…takes the stage…there is a quality in Zoe Francis’s work that suggests something of the classic singers of the past…yet there is no obvious attempt to be anyone but herself, with an appealing freshness as well as technical command that make her shows well worth seeking out...….a classy, poised singer who respects her material enough to deliver it straight and true” LondonJazz News; “Fine…singer” Time Out
