Mon 5th - DINO BAPTISTE

Dino Baptiste 606 club chelsea live music venue blues boogie woogie club restaurant8:30PM Dino Baptiste has been an outstanding pianist working in the UK and beyond for over two decades, sharing his prodigious talent amongst an array of local and internationally recognised artists and best known here at the Club as the pianist with the iconic Blues singer Dana Gillespie. Although capable of performing in an array of Jazz styles, it has been his love and enthusiasm for Blues, Boogie Woogie and Soul that has seen him become firmly established as a leading pianist/vocalist. He first started performing in the mid 70's, influenced by the likes of Ray Charles, Nat King Cole, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard and Louis Prima, influences that he has carried through to this day. After a short spell in Australia in the late 80's he returned to the UK in the early 90's when he was hired by Dana to accompany her for a show. It was a musical match made in heaven and more than 20 years later he remains an integral part of her band, performing worldwide with her and appearing on all the albums she has made in that time. A busy and successful musician, as well as with Dana, Dino also includes work with the likes of Donald Fagen, Lulu, Leo Sayer and Paul Jones & The Blues Band, plus numerous gigs with his own band at Clubs and Blues festivals around the UK and Europe. His debut CD “Two Timing Lover” was received with considerable acclaim in the Blues and Boogie Woogie world particularly, and it is music from this album plus as Dino puts it "an exclusive selection of old hits from my idols Ray Charles and Nat King Cole" that he will be performing tonight. A high energy performer with an infectious personality and skills to match, anyone who has seen Dino's dynamic performances with Dana here at the Club will know just how impressive his Blues and Boogie Woogie playing really is.  For this gig Dino will be joined by Dana Gillespie regulars Mike Paice on sax and harmonica, Carl Stanbridge on bass and Alessandro Cinelli on drums. For those who love piano playing at it's most infectious this is a gig not to be missed.

“Dino Baptiste…so highly regarded by the British blues press…impressive...among the best of the current crop of British blues keyboard players” Blues on Stage

Thu 8th - ACANTHA LANG

Acantha Lang 606 club chelsea live music venue jazz blue groove club restaurant8:30PM Singer Acantha Lang has been making quite a name for herself since recently relocating to London. Although born in New Orleans, her desire to sing was really kindled after she moved to New York and bought her first Blues CD, and as she says "it felt like home". She immersed herself in the blues, studying its history, music and greats such as Howlin' Wolf and Muddy Waters, which led to putting together and landing a residency at the Harlem Grill where her highly lauded ‘Monday Night Blues’ performances were described as "an amalgamation of Tina Turner, James Brown, and Janis Joplin". It wasn't long before she was being asked to perform at various prestigious venues around New York, including one of the hottest clubs in the country, The Box. It was then a short step to being asked to MC The Box's sister Club, The Box-London. Unsurprisingly, performing regularly at such a well-known venue has helped rapidly establish Acantha as an artist of real talent and authority. As well as New York and London, Acantha has performed in Africa, French Guiana, China, Russia, and throughout Europe and has been heralded as a force to be reckoned with by the likes of Sting and Axl Rose. Although Acantha started out singing the Blues, these days her repertoire is more eclectic, and she quotes the likes of Tina Turner, Nina Simone and Jimi Hendrix amongst her many influences. Acantha has already appeared here at the Club with the likes of Mo Pleasure and Dan Reinstein, so we know her powerful and charismatic singing well. It is therefore with great pleasure that we welcome this outstanding artist with her very own band  featuring 606 Club regular, guitarist Emlyn Francis (Imaani). Promises to be a "Groove" extravaganza not to be missed.

"Her voice blew me away…She is truly unforgettable.” Jude Law; "She has a soulful voice reminiscent of Tina Turner, Chaka Khan...she's the real deal" Mo Pleasure

Mon 12th - 606 CLUB SPECIAL: WALTER SMITH III "TW10"

Walter Smith III TW10 606 club chelsea live music venue jazz club restaurant london uk8:30PM  Presented in association with UK contemporary jazz label Whirlwind Recordings, acclaimed US saxophonist Walter Smith III will be making his 606 debut as part of the Euro Launch tour for his latest album, “TWIO”.  Recognized as one of the greatest saxophonists of his generation, Walter has played with the likes of Mulgrew Miller, Billy Childs, Joe Lovano, Herbie Hancock, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Terri Lynne Carrington, Bill Stewart and Ralph Peterson, and has been a member of several legendary American contemporary jazz groups, including Roy Haynes Fountain of Youth Band, Terence Blanchard Quintet, Eric Harland's "Voyager", Ambrose Akinmusire Quintet and the Christian McBride "Situation" to name just a few. To date, he has appeared on over 100 recordings and performed at prominent venues such as Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center. To provide further context, such is his formidable reputation that American jazz superstars Josh Redman and Christian McBride guested on Walter’s latest recording! A graduate of Berklee College of Music and the Thelonious Monk Institute of Jazz (where he earned his Master’s degree), Walter showed early promise when he was awarded the Clifford Brown/Stan Getz Fellowship from the International Association for Jazz Education (IAJE) while still in high school, amongst many other distinguished awards and scholarships. Stylistically, his range is vast, yet there is a timeless quality to his sound that makes it accessible to any jazz fan. For this 606 show, Walter will have three of the UK’s premier jazz players on side: bass virtuoso (& Whirlwind label head) Michael Janisch, drummer Andrew Bain and special guest, Ronnie Scott All-Star ace, saxophonist Alex Garnett. Again, this is the only London date on the tour so don’t miss the opportunity to see this extraordinary artist performing with this outstanding band.

“uses some of that mid-’60s Miles strategy, and the best of it - is fabulous” New York Times; “... consistently emerging as an identifiable voice among the masses.” All About Jazz; "Smith is casually mentioned in the same breath as other modern saxophone greats like Joshua Redman, Chris Potter and Mark Turner" LA Weekly

Tue 20th - TWO SETS

Dan Reinstein 606 club chelsea live music venue jazz club restaurant 8:00PM DAN REINSTEIN American born but British educated, I first met Dan at the old Club when he was a medical undergraduate. Even then he was an impressive player, and after taking time off his medical studies to go to the Berklee School of Music he became even more remarkable. He returned to the USA in the early 90s where he became one of the world’s leading experts in laser eye surgery (he’s now officially Professor Reinstein). But he never stopped playing, and when he returned to London to live and work it was great to hear his fluent, classic hard-bop, muscular sax playing again. Also featured tonight will be Shanti Jayasinha on trumpet and Tim Lapthorn on piano.

“…impressive hard-bop saxophonist” Time Out

9:45PM DILL KATZ is appearing later with his regular quartet, playing the more contemporary side of the spectrum. Dill, frequently referred to as a “bass legend”, is one of the most experienced players on the scene today, having pioneered the use of the fretless bass in the mid sixties, and whose work includes stints with Ian Carr’s “Nucleus”, Barbara Thompson’s band “Paraphernalia” and Afro/Jazz band “District Six”. This gig also features the excellent guitar playing of Leon Stenning.
