DAVID GORDON TRIO Photo 1

An assured and versatile pianist, David Gordon is one of the few professional jazz musicians who is also a well-established classical artist. An accomplished harpsichordist as well as pianist, David includes work with the likes of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, and has toured Europe and South America with the European Baroque Orchestra. An award-winning jazz and classical composer, he has had works performed on BBC Radio 3 as well as performances at the Cheltenham Festival and QEH. As a jazz pianist he has led his own trio since 1995 with a repertoire that focuses on original compositions by the band, but also includes material as diverse as folk music from Venezuela, East European dance music and Celtic-tinged melodies. David's recent fascinating project “Alexander Scriabin's Ragtime Band” was received with considerable acclaim by audiences and critics alike, with both sold out live performances and a highly regarded CD. His last performance at the 606 in 2017 was under the auspices of the London Jazz Festival, the capital’s largest jazz-oriented event and paid “homage to the great masters of eighteenth century Italian music to create a new kind of jazz. Taking its cue from the great 18th-century Italian masters, whose musical methods based on partimento ended up influencing music right the way across Europe, the Trio cleverly create super-hip jazz melodies and improvisations from the disciplines of the past, alongside some twentieth century Latin American hits that share some of the same characteristics and history”. David is a world class talent with a brilliant intellect and playful sense of humour, and therefore his shows are always musically innovative and thoroughly enjoyable.

“Gordon...a richly gifted player with a sparkling style and boundless imagination!” Independent on Sunday; “Outstanding” Crescendo Magazine;"He doesn’t play many notes, but the notes that he does play are almost the selection of a genius" Jazz FM; "one of our most brilliant pianists … festival organisers both classical and jazz should be grabbing these guys with both hands" London Jazz News;"David Gordon has the wonderful ability to make piano notes shine like precious drops of water" LondonJazz News
