David Gordon Trio :: Mike Outram Chris Montague 606 Club Chelsea Live Music Jazz London UK8:00PM An assured and versatile pianist David Gordon is one of the few professional jazz musicians who is also a well-established classical performer. An accomplished harpsichordist as well as pianist, David includes work with the likes of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, and has toured Europe and South America with the European Baroque Orchestra. An award-winning jazz and classical composer, he has had works performed on BBC Radio 3 as well as performances at the Cheltenham Festival and QEH. As a jazz pianist he has led his own trio since 1995 with a repertoire that focuses on original compositions by the band, but also includes material as diverse as folk music from Venezuela, East European dance music and Celtic-tinged melodies. David's most recent, fascinating, project “Alexander Scriabin's Ragtime Band” was received with considerable acclaim by audiences and critics alike, with both sold out live performances and a highly regarded CD. Tonight David will be bringing his brand new project to the Club in what promises to be a unique, thoughtful and inventive gig and absolutely not to be missed.

“Gordon...a richly gifted player with a sparkling style and boundless imagination!” Independent on Sunday; “Outstanding” Crescendo Magazine

9:45PM For our second set, we feature the newly formed Mike Outram/Chris Montague quartet featuring two of the finest jazz guitarists on the International jazz scene. Mike Outram is one of the UK’s foremost jazz guitarists. He has toured worldwide, played on over a hundred CDs, appeared in a televised Prom from The Royal Albert Hall, played classical guitar to film at the Sao Paulo Film Festival, Brazil and recorded Laura Rossi’s film soundtrack to "The Firm". Artists he has performed with include Robert Fripp, Carleen Anderson, Nikki Iles and Herbie Mann. Highly respected as a player he is also a professor at both Trinity College of Music and the Royal Academy of Music. His fluent and inspired playing has been widely recognized as world class and it is a great pleasure to welcome him back with this new lineup. One of the most innovative musicians to emerge from the UK in recent years, Chris Montague is a founder member of the highly acclaimed band Troyka, garnering an enviable reputation for his distinctive approach to the guitar. A prizewinner at the Montreux International Guitar Competition he has gained much acclaim for his contributions to many contemporary recordings and gigs with the likes of Django Bates, Gwilym Simcock, Charlie Watts and Colin Town. His music has been the subject of a feature on BBC Radio 3, he has recorded and performed with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and he was selected for the prestigious Take 5 Artist Development scheme. Mike describes the music that they will be playing as influenced by classic contemporary guitarists such as John Scofield and John Abercrombie, so expect plenty of melodic, weaving lines and exciting harmonic excursions from two masters of the instrument.

"Mike Outram….tempering blistering fret-board histrionics with contemplative lyricism….transforming minor thematic variations into epic meditations" All About Jazz; “Montague...mesmerizingly tender and stingingly explosive” Jazzwise
