Fri 8th ROBIN JONES

has become something of a regular at the Club in recent times, due very much to public demand. Generally considered to be one of the finest percussion players around, Robin’s shaven head and distinctive earring can be seen in groups from his own “King Salsa” to Top of the Pops sessions and a huge variety of studio work. The Salsa band that he leads at the Club, which also features arrangements and originals from saxophonist Nick Walker, produces a truly infectious Latin vibe which is always rhythmic and exciting. “..world class conguero..” Overload

Sat 9th “MOST WANTED” featuring DAVE O’HIGGINS, GRAEME FLOWERS & BARNABY DICKINSON

Dave O’Higgins is undoubtedly one of this country’s finest modern jazz sax players. His powerful, driving, style has been a feature of the scene since the early 80’s, and has been heard with the likes of Kyle Eastwood, Frank Sinatra, Ray Charles and Annie Lennox. Barnaby Dickinson, who includes work with the likes of Jamie Cullum, is one of the best young trombonists in Europe, and trumpeter Graeme Flowers has been seen with Kyle Eastwood and the JTQ amongst the many bands he has performed with. This amazing three horn front line create an electrifying, powerful and highly musical sound performing music which is a mix of groove originals and high energy Jazz standards. Highly recommended. “O’Higgins exceptional fluency...one of Britain’s finest musicians” Observer; “world class players” BBC Music Magazine; “Dazzling” Guardian.

Our Gospel brunch Xmas Party this year promises to be the best yet with not one but two (yes two!) great Gospel Choirs. Directed by Tracey Campbell, one of the UK’s leading Gospel singers, the St Patrick’s Gospel Choir is quickly establishing itself as one of the newest and most consistent of the London-based Gospel Choirs. And appearing opposite them will be a Choir that has performed so regularly at the Club it is virtually our “house” Choir, the truly wonderful Many Rivers, a unique multi-denominational choir that brings it’s own free spirit to the classic Gospel Choir format. Both choirs will be supported by “GGG” our four piece band lead by 606 regulars, keyboardist Miko Giedroyc and bass player Andre Gabriel. Mon 11th IMELDA MAY

Dublin born Imelda May is fast becoming regarded by fans and critics alike as one of the finest singers currently emerging on the UK Jazz scene. After working extensively in her native Ireland, including work on the iconic TV programme the Late Late Show and performances with the likes of Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood, Imelda made her way to London in the late 90's. Perhaps best known for her work here since then with Jazz/Swing band “Blue Harlem” she has performed all around the country including the Jazz Café, The Royal Festival Hall and Coventry Jazz Festival. A highly rated musician her renditions of Jazz standards with a blues tinged voice full of power and character have won her many admirers. She has shared the bill with Dionne Warwick, The Supremes, Scissor Sisters, Elvis Costello, and Elton John and has also performed with great success for Prince Albert of Monaco and HRH The Prince Of Wales. Tonight, accompanied by a hand picked band of exciting young musicians, she will be focusing primarily on her own excellent original material written with a contemporary edge, along with a select number of jazz standards that she particularly loves to perform. “..one of the best singers I’ve heard in a long time.“ Michael Parkinson.

Tues 12th DAN REINSTEIN

Every now and again excellent players appear at the Club who also manage to be very good at something else. Art Theman (surgeon) is one, Spike Wells (priest) is another, and now we can add saxophonist Dan Reinstein to that list. American born but British educated, I first met Dan at the old Club when he was a medical undergraduate. Even then he was an impressive player, and after taking time off his medical studies to go to the Berklee School of Music he became even better. “Dr. Dan”, as he was affectionately known, stayed in London for a while after qualifying, before going back to the USA in the early 90’s, where he became one of the world’s leading experts in laser eye surgery. But he never stopped playing, and when he returned to London to live earlier this year it was great to hear his fluent, classic hard-bop, muscular sax playing again.

ALAN RUSHTON Alan’s drumming has been a feature of the British Jazz scene for more than 30 years now. His cv is vast, including stints with 60’s Jazz/Blues icon Graham Bond, resident drummer on T.V.’s “PlayAway (remember that!), Kiki Dee, Ray Russell, Slim Gailard and a host more. The quartet he leads features the powerful sax playing of Greg Heath and the music is very much in the swinging, classic, modern Jazz mould.

Fri 15th STEFAN REDTENBACHER’S “RB FUNKESTRA”

Austrian born bass player Stefan Redtenbacher has, over the last 10 years, established himself as the UK’s “groove” bass player of choice for many artists, both live and recorded. The roster of artists with whom he has worked includes Steve Winwood, Sam Brown, Danny Gotlieb and Eliott Randall (Steely Dan). He has also established himself as a producer and educator of some note. The band that he leads tonight is his 5 piece “Funkestra”, the name of which pretty accurately describes the high energy style of the music. Boasting some of the best funk players in Europe this band performs original “groove” music with an authority and style that is hard to beat.  “The Governor of Bass” BBC Radio2; “..a near perfect slice of jazz-funk bass from one of Europe’s great players.” Bass Guitar magazine

Sat 16th DAVE BETTS

began writing his own material in 1999 and formed the Dave Betts Quintet in 2000. His compositions span the worlds of Jazz, Latin and Funk and he plays a wide range of percussion instruments, from drum kit through to congas, timbales and tabla. Dave has worked with a variety of musicians from Rock/world giant Peter Gabriel to Jazz pianist Jason Rebello. Featuring a two horn front line of sax and trumpet this is a high energy Jazz/Funk/Latin quintet, and great fun.

Sun 17th Hamish Stuart * XMAS PARTY * PART 1!

Probably best known for his work as the original lead singer/guitarist with “The Average White Band”, Hamish has had an illustrious career as both songwriter and performer. He has worked with the likes of Diana Ross, George Benson and Chaka Khan (for whom he wrote the No. 1 chart hit “Whatcha Gonna Do For Me” ) culminating in six years with the Paul McCartney Band. Since ’94 he has led his own band, which is a “super-group” in every sense of the word and very much out of the R&B tradition, although considerably more sophisticated than the 70’s version. It’s great that Hamish likes working at the Club so much as this is always a fantastic night, and definitely requires booking to guarantee a seat. Tonight and tomorrow night Hamish has invited a host a special guests to come down to help celebrate Xmas with us at the Club, including ace guitarist Jim Mullen. Expect madness, mirth, music and mayhem, or, as Hamish described it to me “..a veritable Xmas cracker!” . Booking advised. £12

Mon 18th Hamish Stuart * XMAS PARTY * PART 2!

Well, Hamish and I decided that this was just too good for one night so we’ve asked Jim and the rest of the crew down for a second night. So, if you can’t make Sunday.....! Booking advised. £12

Tues 19th TIM WHITEHEAD’S “BIRTHDAY BASH” AND CHARITY NIGHT

Tim is considered to be one of the most inventive of modern jazz tenor players who has worked with just about every major British jazz performer. The set he performs at the Club is a mix of classic jazz standards and what he likes to term “new standards”, tunes such as Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On”, with some of his wonderful originals thrown in. A recent review said  “even (Mike) Brecker’s admirers would have to give Whitehead the edge for soulfulness...” Tonight Tim will be celebrating his birthday at the Club with a host of guest performers. This is now something of an annual event (which I suppose is not surprising given that’s how birthdays work!) and it’s always guaranteed to be fun, musical, and full of surprises. All monies collected tonight will go to Tim’s charity of choice, “Parents for Inclusion”, so come down, have a great night and do some good, all at the same time! Highly recommended. Suggested Charity Donation £15

Thurs 21st REG WEBB

is a wonderful pianist with an absolutely brilliant voice. A charismatic musician his trio performs a mixture of Jazz standards and more contemporary material in a quite unique style. Resident on the East coast this vastly experienced musician has been entrancing audiences up and down the country for many years now. His visits to London are few and far between so my advice is catch him while you can.

Fri 22nd VANESSA HAYNES

is a new, and enormously impressive, addition to the UK scene. Originally from Trinidad, where she worked to great acclaim for some years, she recently made her way to London, which is definitely our gain! She performs a mix of Jazz standards and more contemporary Soul and R&B and, with her powerful, cultured voice, and commanding stage presence, is quite stunning. Working with a fabulous band that features one of the country’s finest bass players, Paul Carmichael, Richard Bailey (Incognito) drums and Tim Cansfield (Seal, BeeGees) guitar, this is unquestionably a gig not to be missed.

Sat 23rd 606 CLUB XMAS PARTY feat. “SAMARA” with Special guest Victoria Newton-vocals

Well, Xmas is almost upon us, and at this time of the year we decide to get in to the spirit of it all! This is the last night for us before we close for the holidays and we traditionally invite all the musicians who have performed at the Club through the year to come down and join us for “a bit of a party”! The band featured tonight is my team, “Samara”, a seven piece jazz/latin group which I lead, and suffice it to say I think the guys in the band are just great! The pianist, Neil Angilley works with Vanessa Mae and “Down to the Bone”, guitarist Mark Johns includes Sting, Whitney Houston and Geoff Beck on his cv and is in constant demand for sessions and tours, Dill, the bass player, is visiting professor at the Guildhall, Nic the drummer has worked with just about everyone, including “Loose Tubes” and Bill Withers, the percussionist, Dawson is generally recognised as one of the most versatile and experienced players on the scene, and the singer Victoria Newton is condidered to be one one of the most powerful and versatile singers on the scene. The music is an infectious blend of Brazilian Samba, jazz/latin and Soul, and we all have a great time! Come prepared to dance!
