Gareth Williams has unquestionably established himself as one of the country’s leading modern jazz pianists. A fiery and creative player his remarkable talent has been seen with an impressive array of top level artists, from jazz/hip hop band “Us3” through to internationally-renowned jazz musicians such as Joe Lovano, George Coleman, Dave Liebman, Iain Ballamy and Jim Mullen. MD for leading UK vocalist Claire Martin and featured at the Club with iconic US sax star Jerry Bergonzi, Gareth is widely regarded as amongst the very best. Tonight he will be featuring music from his latest album “Short Stories”, a mix of his wonderful originals and some standards for good measure with Chris Laurence-bass & Martin France-drums. Over to Gareth for a description: “This project came from a desire to encapsulate the many facets of music that I love…aspects that aren’t always to the fore in the jazz idiom. There are moments of explosive swing and bravado but also compositions that evoke melancholy and introspection. With Chris I can explore intuitive, reactive playing and Martin is the ultimate in responsiveness and creativity”. And he may well sing a little, too!
