The Jazz scene in the UK has a long and proud performance history, but this can’t be sustained without the loyalty and dedication of so many people who turn out regularly to support gigs and help keep the music alive. Tonight, in an unusual reversal, we are presenting an evening dedicated to the memory of such a member of the audience, Mike Frohlich. A long-time supporter, not just of the 606 Club but every major venue in the capital and beyond, Mike’s unbounded enthusiasm for the music was a joy to see. However, his advocacy didn’t just stop at attending the gigs, he also provided practical and thoughtful backup for many musicians on the UK scene, particularly during the pandemic when so many were unable to work. Sadly Mike passed away unexpectedly in December 2021 and so tonight some of the finest musicians on the UK scene are getting together to remember this remarkable, quiet man who did so much with so little fanfare.
Artists coming to pay their respects include Joe Stilgoe, Liane Carroll, Rebecca Poole aka Purdy, Giacomo Smith, Iain Ballamy & Pat Clahar in an evening of appreciation that promises to be as unique as Mike himself. All music money collected on the night will be donated to a Charity supporting musicians.
