Sun 9th - IAN SHAW

singer Ian Shaw 606 Club Chelsea live music venue jazz club restaurant london uk8:30PM Record producer, broadcaster, raconteur, pianist oh, and one of Europe’s finest male jazz vocalists, Ian Shaw has it all. Named Best Vocalist of the Year twice (!) at the BBC Jazz Awards, the multi-award-winning Ian Shaw is a huge talent with the most engaging personality and an ability to make every song his own. Described as “the voice of the decade” it is not by chance that he was the first British Jazz vocalist to be signed to American label, Milestone, which resulted in a number of highly acclaimed US recordings. A wry, witty and intelligent showman, Ian has an international reputation, including sell-out tours of the US, Canada and most recently Australia. Check out “A Ghost in Every Bar”, an album celebrating the lyrics of the wonderful Fran Landesman (who said that Ian’s version of her classic “Spring Can Really Hang You Up The Most” was her favourite). Now signed to Jazz Village he has just released (both in London and Paris) his latest recording “The Theory of Joy” to considerable acclaim.  Booking definitely advised.

“One of the scene's class acts”The Guardian; “…our finest Jazz singer” Time Out; “an eye-watering vocal range and bucketloads of soul” BBC; “an artist on top of his game” Jazzwise

Mon 10th - TWO SETS

Saxophonist Dan Reinstein 606 Club Chelsesa live music venue jazz club restaurant london8:00PMDAN REINSTEIN American born but British educated, I first met Dan at the old Club when he was a medical undergraduate. Even then he was an impressive player, and after taking time off his medical studies to go to the Berklee School of Music he became even more remarkable. He returned to the USA in the early 90s where he became one of the world’s leading experts in laser eye surgery (he’s now officially Professor Reinstein). But he never stopped playing, and when he returned to London to live and work it was great to hear his fluent, classic hard-bop, muscular sax playing again. Also featured tonight will be Shanti Jayasinha on trumpet and Tim Lapthorn on piano.

“…impressive hard-bop saxophonist” Time Out

9:45PM DILL KATZ DILL KATZ is appearing later with his regular quartet, playing the more contemporary side of the spectrum. Dill, frequently referred to as a “bass legend”, is one of the most experienced players on the scene today, having pioneered the use of the fretless bass in the mid sixties, and whose work includes stints with Ian Carr’s “Nucleus”, Barbara Thompson’s band “Paraphernalia” and Afro/Jazz band “District Six”. This gig also features the excellent guitar playing of Leon Stenning.

“Superior jazz-rock quartet led by ex-Nucleus electric bassist Katz” Time Out

Fri 14th - protect the beat

Protect the Beat 606 Club Chelsea live music venue jazz funk groove club restaurant london9:30PM PROTECT THE BEAT is made up of five of the finest jazz funk experts on the scene; Derek Nash, sax (Jools Holland, Dave Grusin, Sax Appeal), Tim Cansfield, guitar (Bee Gees, Elton John), Neil Angilley, keyboard (Vanessa Mae, War of The Worlds), Phil Scragg bass and Darby Todd, drums (Dennis Rollins, “The Lion King”). With such a fantastic group of players, it’s no surprise that the band has been described in the music press as "the strongest live act within the genre in the UK at this time” and that their CD “Intrepid” was at the number 1 spot of the independent UK Jazz Chart for 11 weeks! With numerous festival appearances to their name including The Capitol Jazz Festival (USA) and two memorable shows at Brecon Jazz, “Protect the Beat” have certainly left an impression with their inimitable brand of jazz/funk. To quote the title of their debut album, "It Ain't Dinner Jazz".

“Their live shows are an explosion of energy with the ebullient Nash leading his team of crack session players through a series of full on, unashamedly funky tunes” TheJazzMann.com

Fri 28th - TONY O'MALLEY

Tony O'Malley 606 Club Chelsea live music venue jazz soul groove club restaurant 9:30PM  Tony O’Malley is unquestionably one of the most charismatic vocalists working in the UK. A featured performer since the late 60s, his CV is vast and includes stints with the iconic band 10CC and his own seminal Jazz/Funk band Kokomo. His brand of jazz-tinged contemporary soul and blues is really stunning, with his fabulous, smoky, velvety growl of a voice delivering original material and some covers in his inimitable style. With eight CDs to his name including his latest, “Back at the Bag” released in the summer of 2015, Tony has established himself as one of the most original and powerful performers on the scene today, with a fan base that reaches around the world. Not surprisingly his regular band features some of the finest groove musicians around including Tony’s latest recruits, the up-and-coming guitarist Richie Aikman, bass player Sonny Winslow and young drum talent Ally McDougal. If you like contemporary R&B vocals with a touch of Jazz in the Blues Brothers style, then this is definitely for you.

“...the velvet gravel throated O’Malley is one of the UK’s most undersung vocal performers...the songs drenched in the deep soulful spirit that characterises everything he touches…one of the UK’s hottest properties” Jazzwise
