EMILIA MARTENSSON FEAT. MATT ROBINSON Emilia Mårtensson is a London-based Swedish vocalist and composer with a well-deserved reputation as one of the most exciting artists on the UK Jazz scene. Her spellbinding voice won her the 2016 Parliamentary Jazz Award for ‘Vocalist of the Year’, while renowned jazz authority Jazzwise Magazine said she possesses “a voice of quite remarkable expressive depth”. Her compositions are rooted in the folklore and countryside of her native southern Sweden, further adding to the mystique and allure of this distinctive and truly original artist. This 606 livestream will mark the debut of Emilia’s brand new duo project with up-and-coming pianist/composer Matt Robinson (Snowpoet, Flying Machines, The Magic Lantern), which looks to expand upon the traditional piano-vocal duo with a fresh approach to sound, colour, and improvisation. Along with classic standards such as “Cheek to Cheek”, “Midnight Sun”, and “Here’s That Rainy Day”, the duo will play their own compositions, imbued with influences from folk, Art pop, and Jazz. Undoubtedly one of the finest singers of her generation.
“Ethereal voiced Swedish singer Martensson effortlessly mixes delicate folkish melodies with swoonsome jazz lines to create her own bewitching sound” Time Out; "...intriguing …beautiful and thought-provoking” Jazz Journal; "Emilia Mårtensson's singing bobbed and weaved like a great boxer. She lured the crowd close with a whisper, then sent them flying with a note strong as Ali's right hook” All about Jazz; “The long Mehldau-like piano intro…highlights resourceful young pianist Matt Robinson’s spontaneity” Guardian
