“ethereal voiced Swedish singer Martensson effortlessly mixes delicate folkish melodies with swoonsome jazz lines to create her own bewitching sound”

Time Out

Sadly Emilia Martensson is no longer able to perform this evening. Brigitte Beraha will be appearing along with Matt Robinson-piano, Max Luthert-bass & Will Glaser-drums. More information to follow....

Emilia Mårtensson is a London-based Swedish vocalist and composer with a well-deserved reputation as one of the most exciting artists on the UK Jazz scene. Her spellbinding voice won her the 2016 Parliamentary Jazz Award for ‘Vocalist of the Year’, while renowned jazz authority Jazzwise Magazine said she possesses “a voice of quite remarkable expressive depth”. Her compositions are rooted in the folklore and countryside of her native southern Sweden, further adding to the mystique and allure of this distinctive and truly original artist. For this 606 show Emilia will be joined by up-and-coming pianist/composer Matt Robinson (Snowpoet, Flying Machines, The Magic Lantern), as they bring their new project, 'Solitary Creatures" to the Club. Augmented by Max Luthert-bass and Will Glaser-drums, the quartet will take familiar songs and original compositions and frame them in unique and unexpected ways to create music that is poised, delicate and evocative, yet at the same time powerful and exciting. Undoubtedly one of the finest singers of her generation.

“Ethereal voiced Swedish singer Martensson effortlessly mixes delicate folkish melodies with swoonsome jazz lines to create her own bewitching sound” Time Out; "...intriguing …beautiful and thought-provoking” Jazz Journal; "Emilia Mårtensson's singing bobbed and weaved like a great boxer. She lured the crowd close with a whisper, then sent them flying with a note strong as Ali's right hook” All about Jazz; “The long Mehldau-like piano intro…highlights resourceful young pianist Matt Robinson’s spontaneity” Guardian
