Jim Watson (Album Launch)
Since graduating from the Leeds College of Music and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama three decades ago, pianist, keyboardist & composer Jim Watson has had a remarkable career in both the jazz & popular music worlds. He’s played, recorded and toured with the best in the business including Kurt Elling, Katie Melua, Manu Katche, Sting, Van Morrison, Seal, Richard Bona, Zero 7, Guy Barker MBE, Lalo Schifrin & Chrissie Hynde, just a handful of the incredible number of iconic artists on his CV. Sought after for his fluid style, impeccable technique and ability to excel in any musical setting, Jim was also co-producer/arranger on five of Manu Katche’s albums. But there’s been very little of Jim’s own music to listen to, aside from one record “The Loop” released in 2001. Fortunately, that’s now changed as tonight, we celebrate the launch of Jim’s new album, “Calling You Home” on ECN Records. Mostly accompanied by the superb rhythm section of bassist Adam King and drummer Ian Thomas, along with a few solo piano compositions, the night will feature a mix of Jim’s own material as well as favourite standards. Jim appears at the 606 often with other ensembles and it will be a treat to see him in the spotlight for this special gig!
“…pianist Jim Watson is the kind of accompanist that singers dream about” The Observer; “…classy Jazz pianist” Time Out; “Watson…his McCoy Tyner-like percussive chords & torrential right hand lines were a standout” Guardian
