Sam Braysher Trio ft Joe Webb & Dave Green
“"Braysher’s cool, modernist twist on old songs is just superb"”
Jazz Journal
The Award-winning saxophonist Sam Braysher performs across a wide variety of styles and genres, with a particular interest in exploring lesser-known material from the American Songbook and jazz canon. His 2017 debut album, ‘Golden Earrings’, a duo recording with NYC pianist Michael Kanan, was awarded four stars by the Observer with a number of jazz journalists selecting it in their ‘Best of 2017’ lists, while his subsequent trio record with Jorge Rossy (Brad Mehldau Trio) and Tom Farmer (Empirical) received high praise from Jazzwise as “a triumph of intelligence and sentiment”. For this show Sam will be joined by fellow UK jazz virtuosi Joe Webb-piano (Kansas Smitty's, Jamie Cullum) & Dave Green-bass (Sonny Rollins, Coleman Hawkins, Ben Webster) playing a programme of jazz standards influenced by the likes of Stan Getz, Oscar Peterson, Art Tatum, Billie Holiday and Lester Young.
"Braysher’s cool, modernist twist on old songs is just superb" Jazz Journal; “I can’t think of another alto saxophonist with a sound quite like Sam Braysher’s” Dave Gelly, the Observer; “The warm-toned young London saxophonist Sam Braysher is a prize-winning investigator of the early recordings and published music of Jerome Kern, Nat King Cole, Duke Ellington and many others, and imagines a new jazz closely attuned to an old world” John Fordham, the Guardian; “expressive and thoughtful…combines melodic beauty and rhythmic deftness…the real deal” Clarinet & Saxophone Magazine
