Tara Minton
“Minton...one of the leading contemporary harpists in Europe”
Artistic Director, Cambridge Jazz Festival
Originally from Australia jazz harpist and vocalist Tara Minton has become one of the leading figures in UK contemporary harp circles, renowned as both a performer and educationalist. She has worked with, among others, Björk, Alice Zawadski, Emma Rawicz, Eska, Clare Wheeler, Stan Sulzmann, Geoff Gascoyne, Faris Ishaq, Nick Willsher, The Australian World Orchestra and The Ronnie Scott's All Stars, as well as holding a masters degree in jazz performance from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Tonight Tara is bringing to the Club her suite inspired by her trip to México, "The Devil Invites You To Dance". This latest work blends contemporary jazz and Latin American music traditions, with the music, language and mythology of these traditions, all delicately woven into the tapestry of the band's contemporary jazz sound. Featuring Miguel Gorodi-trumpet, John Williamson-bass, Dave Ingamells-drums combining with Tara’s harp to provide a rich palette from which to explore the depths (and heights) of the compositions.
“There is a palpable joy in her harp-playing, and her singing, and how she combines them” UK Jazz News; “Bewitching" Jazzwise; "Ethereal and free-spirited" MOJO; “An otherworldly collection that brings the harp centre stage” The Sunday Times
