Quentin Collins' Italian Quintet ft Michael Rosen
For almost two decades Quentin Collins has had an enviable reputation as a lyrical and melodic trumpet player with a powerful sound and approach. He includes the likes of Jeff Beck, Jason Rebello, Basement Jaxx, Omar, Prince and Roy Ayres on a lengthy and impressive cv, but these days is probably best known for his work with the internationally acclaimed Kyle Eastwood Band. Tonight Quentin will be bringing his “Italian Quintet” to the Club featuring US born but Italian resident (basically an honorary Italian!) saxophonist Michael Rosen, whose flowing, muscular, hard-bop-influenced contemporary sax playing has been lauded around Europe. Making up the Italian contingent will be the fluent and exciting pianist Daniele Gorgone along with the accomplished bassist Carlo Bavetta and completing the quintet will be the brilliant Mark Taylor on drums. As Quentin says, "expect a programme full of classic jazz sounds rooted firmly in the lineage of swinging, straight-ahead hard-bop but always forward facing".
