THE CRATEDIGGERS feat. ANDY CAINE Photo 1

Well, this is a treat. Something of a “supergroup” this band features 606 regulars from a variety of high profile bands, including Jason Rebello, the Tommy Blaize Band and the Hamish Stuart band. Andy Caine is best known here at the Club as the singer/guitarist with the enormously popular Tommy Blaize Band (ah, that guy). An acclaimed session vocalist, guitarist and songwriter, Andy’s career in music began when he was 16 years old: “I answered an ad in Melody Maker, which is what you did [in those days] to get work, and joined a band up north,” says Andy. That led to a deal with Epic Records and the start of his career as a studio musician back in the 1980s. Since then Andy has become a pillar of the session world, making a boatload of famous names sound even better. “I’ve never met Simon Cowell, but I’ve sang on almost every record he’s ever made,” Andy says, chuckling. In addition, among the vast number of chart-topping artists he’s performed with are Madonna, Robbie Williams, Take That, Brian Eno, Westlife, East 17, Five, Simply Red and many other established acts. He works regularly on Strictly Come Dancing (alongside Tommy) and Britain’s Got Talent and his vocal arrangements on Dido’s hit “Thank You” were famously sampled and helped Eminem on his road to international stardom. Paul Stacey’s fluent and impressive guitar playing has been heard many times over the years here at the Club. He has been featured with such Jazz artists as Claire Martin and Jason Rebello, however, demonstrating his unusual versatility he has also toured as a pivotal member of Oasis, The Black Crowes and the Finn Brothers bands. These days a highly regarded producer as well as performer he toured with Tom Jones’s “Praise & Blame” tour, was the musical director for the play Backbeat and most recently co-produced Steven Wilson's album “To the Bone”. Ian Thomas has been playing at the Club for well over 25 years, performing with innumerable jazz and groove outfits including the Tommy Blaize Band and the Hamish Stuart Band. One of the busiest drummers on the studio scene his cv reads like a who’s who of the biggest international stars, including work with the likes of Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney, Elton John, Sting, Mick Jagger, George Michael, Tom Jones, Seal, Rufus Wainwright, and Michael Jackson. Pianist Sean Hargreaves moved to the US to study at Berklee College Of Music in Boston before returning to a plethora of work in the UK with artists of the likes of Michael Bublé, Alison Moyet, Guy Barker, Peter King and Jim Mullen. The remaining rhythm section of Chris Dodd on bass and Pete Eckford include work with the likes of Lynden David Hall, John Etheridge, Wynton Marsalis, Gary Burton, Roberto Pla, Dave Lewis’s “1 Up” and Grupo X. This exciting new group will play a mix of music from Gil Scott Heron to Steely Dan, Curtis Mayfield and Bowie to James Brown. With well over a hundred years of experience between them at the highest level, this is a band well worth catching.
