Alex Clarke
A finalist in the 2020 BBC Young Jazz Musician of the Year competition, winner of the Rising Star category in the 2019 British Jazz Awards and a three-time nominee in the Parliamentary Jazz Awards, Alex Clarke is amongst the most in-demand and versatile young saxophonists emerging on the British jazz scene. Her fluent, melodic, style and warm, round, tone fit perfectly with the straight-ahead jazz standard and bebop repertoire she performs, along with her standout quartet - Dave Newton-piano, Dave Green-bass & Steve Brown-drums. Her latest, second album “Out of the Woods” celebrates the legacy of the famed altoist Phil Woods, who along with Sonny Stitt and Cannonball Adderley are Alex’s primary inspirations. Featuring a selection of classic tunes as well as lesser-known gems associated with Woods alongside original compositions, this is a terrific swinging gig.
