David Gordon Trio
“a richly gifted player with a sparkling style and boundless imagination”
Independent on Sunday
Described by the Independent as "a richly gifted player with a sparkling style and boundless imagination", pianist David Gordon's one of the few professional musicians who is equally established in both the jazz and classical worlds. Along with Oli Hayhurst-bass and Tom Hooper-drums the Trio's recording 'Alexander Scriabin's Ragtime Band' was named MOJO's Jazz CD of the Year" and subsequent projects, the album "Pachyderm" and their tribute to the 19th century French composer Gabriel Fauré were received with similar warmth & enthusiasm. This year, they released their first live album ‘In C’, which as the title states has as its central concept the fact the entire set is performed in the key of C! Tonight at this 606 show their first set will be taken from the record, while the second will be their tribute to the aforementioned composer Fauré, the genius of Romantic pianism whose influence still resonates in the music of the jazz era, along with material by J.S. Bach & Scriabin. A world class talent with a playful sense of humour, David's performances are both intriguing and fun.
“A daring, uninterrupted journey of bold improvisation and deep musical connection. The album captures raw interplay, Baroque echoes, Latin grooves, and unexpected twists” Jazz Journal; "He doesn’t play many notes, but the notes that he does play are almost the selection of a genius" Jazz FM; "one of our most brilliant pianists … festival organisers both classical and jazz should be grabbing these guys with both hands" London Jazz News
