Donovan Haffner
Up-and-coming jazz alto saxophonist Donovan Haffner has performed with a multitude of established contemporary jazz musicians, including the likes of Moses Boyd, Jay Phelps, Rasmus Sorensen and US legend Charles Tolliver's Big Band. In 2024 he was selected as a finalist for both the prestigious Parliamentary Jazz Awards “Jazz Newcomer of the Year” and The Musicians’ Company’s “Tina May Award”. The quintet tonight, which features Francisco Garcia de Paredes-guitar & Jay Verma-piano, will present Donovan’s own original music, including a selection from his recently released debut album “Alleviate”. This talented young group further enhance Donovan’s distinctive compositional style, expertly balancing complexity with a sense of melody, accessibility and groove. Donovan himself describes the music as “a combination of the many influences and styles of jazz that I am passionate about”. An impressive musician we are certainly going to hear much more of.
“impressive… Haffner doesn’t rely on technical fireworks, but instead creates genuine depth” Maxazine
