Francis Tulip Trio with special guest Mejedi Owusu
Jazz guitarist Frances Tulip is making a major impression amongst those in the know for his technical prowess as well as his creative spark. A graduate of the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire – where he won their Jazz Performance Prize – he is now studying at Trinity Laban in London, and has already worked with a number of renowned jazz musicians, such as Paul Booth, Xhosa Cole, Phil Meadows and Byron Wallen. In addition, he’s received further recognition from the musician’s charity Help Musicians and the Countess of Munster Musical Trust. Stylistically, Francis is influenced by not just the sound world of contemporary guitarists such as kurt Rosenwinkel, Mike Moreno and Lage Lund, but by horn players as well which lend an additional dimension to his approach. Tonight Francis & his Trio will be joined by special guest, young Suffolk-born trumpeter Mejedi Owusu, who while studying at New York’s famed Julliard School has been championed by acclaimed pianist Emmet Cohen.
