Gareth Lockrane's “Expansions” Tribute to McCoy Tyner ft Femke Mooren
First noticed for his dazzling flute playing, Gareth Lockrane is also a renowned composer, arranger and bandleader. As well as working at the highest level with artists such as Bheki Mseleku, James Taylor and Phil Robson, his own projects, including the Parliamentary Jazz & MOJO Award-winning soul/jazz band Grooveyard and celebrated Big Band are world class. This performance this evening is an exploration of the late Blue Note era of the iconic pianist McCoy Tyner. Featuring the impressive young pianist Thomas Sladden, who’s already making a name for himself on the circuit most recently playing at Ronnies and Gareth’s special guest, the up-and-coming Dutch jazz saxophonist Femke Mooren, the recipient of the 2023 Princess Christina Jazz Competition Prize along with Oli Hayhurst-bass and Darren Beckett-drums don’t miss this exciting, cross-generational, international quintet!
