Julie Dexter
UK born but now US resident, Julie Dexter is an award-winning singer, songwriter and producer. After working with the likes of Omar and Courtney Pine, in 1999 Julie moved to Atlanta, Georgia where she has been ever since. Listing an eclectic array of influences, including Nancy Wilson, Abbey Lincoln, Bob Marley and Sade, Julie’s music incorporates Jazz, Broken-Beat, Reggae, Soul and R&B. Her powerful yet refined vocals have been heard around the world and her recordings have been widely praised, with her hit single "Ketch A Vibe" featured in national radio ads for Democratic Presidential Candidate Senator Barack Obama (now, that’s some endorsement)! Highly respected in the USA in 2022 Julie was honoured by the US organisation “Black Women in Jazz & the Arts” with their ‘Afro-Caribbean Soul of Jazz Award’.
This evening Julie will be performing a mix of her originals, Jazz standards and her own arrangements of popular songs in what she describes as “a rollercoaster of Jazz, Soul, Straight-ahead Jazz and a little infusion of reggae as a homage to my Caribbean roots”. A rare chance to hear this great performer in the UK and not to be missed!
