“Strikingly original music…intricate but groove laden…that appeals across generations”

Jazzwise

Tuesday 11am: Tonight's performance has been canceled due to the impact of the coronavirus, and the Club will be closed this evening. Apologies for any inconvenience.

An Award-winning young musician of remarkable maturity, Jonny Mansfield already includes the prestigious 2018 Kenny Wheeler Jazz Prize and a nomination for an Ivor Novello award amongst a number of impressive accolades. A vibraphonist/drummer/percussionist and composer based in London, Jonny graduated from the Royal Academy of Music in 2017 and in addition to leading his own highly regarded 11 piece band, “Elftet”, he has performed with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra and toured with US sax star Chris Potter. His debut album with the Elftet was released in 2019 on boutique jazz label Edition Records to significant acclaim. Tonight, however, sees Jonny appearing in a quartet setting in what he describes as “a new musical adventure with close friends and heroes”. The rest of the quartet comprises contemporaries Conor Chaplin-bass and Luca Caruso-drums along with jazz flautist Gareth Lockrane, who is generally considered to be one of the finest jazz flute players in Europe, as well as a highly regarded composer, arranger and educationalist (see Sun 1st). Jonny tells us the gig will feature a combination of his original compositions alongside American Songbook arrangements “influenced by titans of the genre such as Dick Oatts, Fred Hersch and Mark Turner”.
