Nigel Price/Paul Edis Quartet Play Gershwin
Recipient of the Parliamentary Jazz Award for Best Jazz Ensemble and the British Jazz Award for ‘Best Small Group’ Nigel Price is a highly skilled guitarist as well as an accomplished composer whose swinging bebop approach combined with flawless control is a delight. Pianist/composer/educator Paul Edis has released numerous original albums, toured the UK, Europe and the US and includes performances at the likes of Dizzy’s New York, SF Jazz, Jazzhus Montmartre and the Royal Albert Hall. He has lectured and led workshops for the National Youth Jazz Collective, the National Youth Jazz Orchestra and was the Artistic Director of the Gateshead-based Regional Youth Jazz Orchestra "Jambone" for over 12 years. Tonight these two master musicians join forces to perform the music of George Gershwin, who wrote some of the most iconic songs of the 20th Century (think "Rhapsody in Blue", "Summertime", "Porgy & Bess", "I Got Rhythm", "Embraceable You"…), in their own, unique, way. This promises to be a very special night from two of the finest musicians on the UK scene!
“Very few players could manage playing as fluent, imaginative and technically impeccable as Price” Evening Standard; “Price…inventiveness, originality & ensemble playing…terrific” Guardian; “A major voice in British Jazz…Edis is an incredibly fertile composer and improviser” Jazz Journal
