Pete Wareham Photo 1

Multi award-winning saxophonist and producer Pete Wareham has long been involved in some of the most innovative projects in British music, including Acoustic Ladyland, Melt Yourself Down (both his own bands), Polar Bear, and many others.  And while he’s associated with genre-defying, crossover styles, he’s also a brilliant player in the modern jazz tradition. This evening, he’s put together a spectacular band of A-listers – Chris Batchelor (Loose Tubes, Pigfoot)-trumpet; Liam Noble (Kenny Wheeler, Mark Lockheart)-piano; Tom Mason (Jamie Cullum, Robert Mitchell)-bass & Corrie Dick (Dinosaur, Rob Luft)-drums – to perform material drawn largely from the 1962 classic album by Steve Lacy, ‘Evidence’. Including four Monk and two Ellington numbers, tonight’s programme will also feature tunes by Henderson, Coleman and others chosen as ideal vehicles for this exceptional quintet. Highly recommended.

“Mind-blowing magnificence” The Times; “Acoustic Ladyland and Polar Bear have been responsible for opening the floodgates for a new wave of bands to fearlessly push the boundaries of jazz” Jazzwise; “Batchelor, a fine trumpeter who intriguingly blends Miles Davis's shrewd pacing and evocative long-note sounds with something of Harry Beckett's bubbly phrasing" Guardian; "Liam Noble…a brilliant pianist who hardly plays a solo without at least one turn of phrase that brings you to the edge of your seat" Guardian
