The Junior Academy Jazz course from the Royal Academy of Music has been a major force in developing the next generation of jazz musicians since its inception in 2003. Notable musicians who have been through the course include Kit Downes, Alexandra Ridout, Jacob Collier, Tom Barford, Nubya Garcia, Tom Walsh and many others. Workshops and masterclasses have been led by some of the jazz world’s leading performers and educators including the original patron of the course, the late great Kenny Wheeler, our new patron Dave Holland and many others!
Today’s performance will be a celebration of this year's achievements, a fantastic year for the course (particularly coming out of lockdown the previous year); and will feature the students with course leader Gareth Lockrane and co-tutor Matt Anderson alongside our special guest, the renowned guitarist and composer Phil Robson, playing a specially arranged set of his compositions amongst the other "hits" of this year's group sessions!
