Simon Woolf's 'New Masters Quintet' ft Donovan Haffner
A lyrical and sophisticated musician, Simon Woolf is widely considered to be one of the most fluent and creative jazz double bass players in Europe. A distinguished career spanning close on five decades has embraced associations with such US stars as Benny Golson, Harry Allen, Ralph Moore, Ruby Braff, George van Eps and Howard Alden as well as collaborations with UK legends Don Rendell, Bobby Wellins, Andy Panayi, Dave Cliff and Peter Jacobsen. Tonight he brings his multi-generational band “New Masters” to the Club with some of the finest upcoming musicians in the country; 2025 Parliamentary Award winner Donovan Haffner-sax, James Davison-trumpet & Joe Edwards-drums alongside himself and Mark Edwards (Katie Melua, Ellington Piano Project)-piano. As well as familiar standards, tonight’s programme will feature a retrospective of tunes composed by Simon.
