The Coalminers FEATURING ARTHUR LEA Photo 1

“"From time to time I stumble on a band that totally blows me away...The sound they have put down is perfect"”

Craig Charles - BBC Radio 2

With their dedication to what they like to refer to as “Swamp Soul” this brilliant 6-piece Americana band, with their unique mixture of New Orleans Groove and Funk, bring the rhythm and soul of the deep south (that's Louisiana, not Brighton...) alive. As well as a Jazz/Groove/Blues rhythm section second to none the band also features the brilliant singer/pianist Arthur Lea, who includes a US solo recording and work with the likes of Bootleg Brass and Soweto Kinch on a massive and eclectic cv. And the rest of the band is equally as impressive.  Drummer Pat Levett includes work with Ian Shaw, The Puppini Sisters and the Ronnie Scott's All Stars, saxophonist Anna Kirby includes performances at the Coachella, Terminal 5–New York and Glastonbury festivals as well as TV and radio sessions for MTV, BBC, and Channel 4, guitarist Nat Martin has recently been performing and recording with the likes of Katie Leone (Incognito) and the award-winning Jo Harman as well as with his own band, and bass player Andrew McKinney has performed with the likes of Beverley Knight, Omar, Jamelia and LL Cool J as well as being the regular bass player with the JTQ (James Taylor Quartet) and head of bass studies at BIMM.  If their last gig here is anything to go by this highly impressive line-up are guaranteed to raise the roof.

"From time to time I stumble on a band that totally blows me away...The sound they have put down is perfect" Craig Charles - BBC Radio 2; "Like the blues legends he admires, Arthur Lea is not only a great singer and songwriter – he’s also a fantastic showman" Evening Standard
