Tim Lapthorn Trio
Well-known here at the 606 where he appears regularly with Dan Reinstein’s quartet, Tim Lapthorn is a terrific pianist who has also worked and performed with world-renowned artists including John McLaughlin, Branford Marsalis, John Patitucci, Chris Potter, and Ron Carter. He has recorded four albums under his own name, with the Penguin Guide to Jazz describing his first as a “beautiful debut album…a marvelous first statement ****”. Therefore tonight we are pleased to welcome Tim with his new Trio featuring two superb fellow UK jazz musicians, bassist Conor Chaplin and drummer Darren Beckett. In addition to a selection of new originals, they will be featuring reworkings of classics by the likes of Charlie Chaplin, Thelonious Monk and Ray Noble, the theme tune from ‘Cheers’ and a track from a Gene Wilder film (we don’t know which one, you’ll have to be in the audience to find out)! Tim’s lyrical, quirky and harmonically adventurous style has won him much critical acclaim - this promises to be a delightful show.
“Lapthorn blends witty invention with deep swing and unerring reassuring balance. ****” MOJO Magazine; “Beautifully executed” Jazzwise; “Amazing piano playing” Ed Sheeran
