Tobago and D'Lime: 'The Kaiso Sessions'
Tobago and D'Lime were put together by Damon Albarn (Blur) for the Paddington Bear films and their joyful renditions of the calypso songs in the movie were so warmly received they have since gone on to perform at venues around the UK. Often the group features singer Tobago Crusoe, but tonight they will be highlighting the fantastic band, with vocals from the brilliant guitarist/singer Tim Cansfield. Born and raised in Trinidad, Tim’s cv is vast, including many years working with the Bee Gees and then Barry Gibb as well as almost 20 years with Swing Out Sister. Other artists he has been featured with include Elton John, Chaka Khan, Tina Turner, Whitney Houston and Seal! The rest of the lineup includes 606 regulars Mark Cherrie-steel pan, Felix Ruiz-keyboards/vocals, Curtis Ruiz-bass/vocals and Richard Bailey (Jeff Beck, Incognito)-drums. Kaiso, incidentally, is a musical genre from Trinidad and Tobago that evolved from African roots and is the predecessor to calypso music!
