Tom Smith
Renowned virtuoso London saxophonist Tom Smith has established himself as a performer of flair and passion, working with the likes of Grammy Award-winner Maria Schneider, Donny McCaslin (David Bowie) and more. As well as his fluent and impressive playing Tom is also a well-respected composer and arranger, most notably with his own Tom Smith Big Band. In addition, he’s released two critically acclaimed albums, “Gecko,” produced by Tim Garland and his latest, “A Year In The Life” with the big band. For this show Tom brings his hard swinging quartet to the 606, featuring Tom Cawley (piano), Dan Casimir (bass) and Justin Tambini (drums). Performing a mixture of Tom’s original music from his recent album and some of his favourite songs from throughout jazz history, he describes the set as “drawing inspiration from films and stories to take you on a journey filled with soaring melodies, heavy swing and edge-of-your seat improvisation”.
“Smith…something really special…great writing, terrific playing” UK Jazz News; “Hyper-savvy Tom Smith sounds as if he’s eagerly lived plenty of diverse jazz lives already…a gifted young artist.” John Fordham, Jazzwise
