Tom Smith
Working with the likes of Grammy Award-winner Maria Schneider & saxophonist Donny McCaslin (David Bowie) renowned saxophonist Tom Smith has established himself as a performer of flair and passion. As well as his fluent and impressive playing Tom is also a well-respected composer and arranger with two critically acclaimed albums to his name, his latest, “A Year In The Life” with his Big Band being listed in the Guardian’s top 10 Jazz albums of the Year. For this show Tom brings his hard swinging quartet to the 606, featuring Fergus McCredie-piano, Misha Mullov-Abbado-bass and Justin Tambini-drums to perform a mix of Tom’s original music plus some of his favourite songs from jazz history. He describes the set as “drawing inspiration from films and stories to take you on a journey filled with soaring melodies, heavy swing and edge-of-your seat improvisation”.
“Smith…something really special…great writing, terrific playing” UK Jazz News; “Hyper-savvy Tom Smith sounds as if he’s eagerly lived plenty of diverse jazz lives already…a gifted young artist.” John Fordham, Jazzwise
