Webb/Harper/Sach With Special Guest: Francesco Ciniglio Photo 1

The gig this evening features three of the finest young musicians in the UK, Joe Webb, Alec Harper and Will Sach alongside their Special Guest, the Italian-born, Paris-based drummer Francesco Ciniglio.

Originally from Wales, pianist Joe Webb has become a force to be reckoned with on the UK jazz scene. He’s worked with Hailey Tuck, Adrian Cox and more, but it is with the Kansas Smitty’s House Band, the swinging, mainstream jazz outfit dubbed London’s ‘new swing princes’ that his profile has reached new heights, including appearing on Jamie Cullum’s Christmas album. Now signed to Edition Records, Joe's own 2024 recording 'Hamstrings & Hurricanes' appeared in numerous 'Best of' lists with the Times saying, "With his talent, Webb really could be the bearer of jazz to Gen X & beyond"....and, breaking news: he has just been nominated for a Mercury Prize! Alec Harper has established himself as one of the leading tenor saxophonists of his generation. Also a member of the wildly popular UK outfit Kansas Smittys, with whom he recorded numerous albums to critical acclaim including Jamie Cullum’s aforementioned Christmas record, he still performs alongside Jamie at his annual Christmas concert and in addition, has toured the globe with Tom Misch, Soft Cell and WDR Big Band at festivals including North Sea Jazz Festival, Montreux Jazz Festival and C6 Festival (Sao Paolo). He currently runs a weekly jazz night in London at Eastcheap Records, where he aims to inspire the next generation of talent allowing young musicians to sit in with the band. A NY native, bassist Will Sach studied at the Manhattan School of Music Pre-College program under Linda Oh, winning the National YoungArts Foundation Merit Award for Jazz Bass in 2015 before coming to the UK to study at the Royal Academy of Music. A member of Joe Webb’s Mercury-Prize nominated Trio, he has also performed with notable artists such as Wynton Marsalis, Joe Farnsworth, Sarah Hanahan, Kit Downes, Sam Amidon, and Jamie Cullum. As an active studio musician, he has featured on over ten albums as a sideman, and was one of three featured musicians with the London Sinfonietta at the Southbank Centre during the EFG London Jazz Festival. Italian-born Drummer Francesco Ciniglio moved to New York at the age of 21 to study and hasn’t looked back. Now based in Paris his subtle but swinging playing has been heard with the likes of Wynton Marsalis, Aaron Parks, Dayna Stephens, Seamus Blake & Donny McCaslin and it’s a pleasure to welcome this impressive drummer to the Club. The set will feature, as Joe describes it “a mix of my music and swinging tunes”. Special night this…

“[Webb]…a dazzling display of virtuoso pianistics” The Jazz Mann; “There are few people more joyous to listen to…than Joe Webb” Jamie Cullum; “Harper…a leading contender among the heavies” BeBop Spoken Here; “Sach…Swinging, attentive and popping” Wynton Marsalis; “Subtlety and deceptive simplicity are more Ciniglio’s m.o.” Downbeat
