Yolanda Charles’ Project PH
Friday 8th October 2021 - 9:00 pm
Music Charge: £16.00
This is a project led by the brilliant bassist Yolanda Charles MBE, a veteran of the Groove/Soul scene who includes work with the likes of Eric Clapton, Van Morrison, Mick Jagger and Michael Jackson on a remarkable cv. Starting her career in the music business playing for Jimmy Somerville from The Communards and London bands Raw Stylus and Urban Species, her most recent pre-lockdown credits saw her touring with renowned composer Hans Zimmer as well as Laura Mvula, Eksa and Squeeze. Yolanda describes the sound of the band, which has been writing and recording together since 2019, as “a soulful, song-based set with guitar and bass driving the funk/fusion characteristics of the music”. The repertoire is mostly original, much of it written by Yolanda herself, and features vocalists Paris Ruel and Adeola Shyllon along with guitarist Kim Murray, drummer Chris Morris and keyboardist Alex Bennett.
